On April 5, Julia Bullock stars in the world premiere of Zauberland, a new musical work which juxtaposes Schumann’s Dichterliebe with original songs by composer Bernard Foccroulle and writer Martin Crimp. A “radical and timely new treatment of Schumann’s song-cycle,” Zauberland tells the story of one woman’s flight from the war-torn Middle East to seek peace in Europe, “a magical if elusive land” (WQXR). Joined by pianist Cédric Tiberghien and Director Katie Mitchell at Paris’s historic Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, Bullock shines in the central role—a performance she will reprise across Germany, the UK, the US, France, Russia, and Belgium during the 2019-2020 season.

Zauberland runs from April 5 to April 14 at Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord.
