Julia Bullock stars as Destiny/Loneliness in the world premiere of Fire Shut Up in My Bones, the operatic adaptation of Charles Blow’s wrenching coming-of-age memoir, at the Opera Theatre of St. Louis. Running from June 15 to June 29, Fire Shut Up in My Bones features music by award-winning jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard and a libretto by screenwriter Kasi Lemmons. Bullock, “ravishing in the role” (New York Times), portrays the physical embodiment of the powerful emotions tormenting the main character Charles. Described as “haunting and brilliant” (The St. Louis American), Bullock performs alongside frequent collaborator Davóne Tines, Karen Slack, and Chaz’men Williams-Ali in this jazz-infused opera.
