Alongside Joyce DiDonato and Jakub Józef Orliński, Julia Bullock stars in a new production of Handel’s Theodora. Director Katie Mitchell reframes the classic opera through a feminist lens, taking place in an alternative modern-day reality.
Of her debut as the title role, Julia shares:
“I first saw Theodora in the iconic 1996 production…It really changed my life and it helped me understand the power of staged classical music, so it is remarkable to perform this piece now. In this staging, the themes of liberty and life are what come to focus, and that is what [Theodora] is fighting for.”
