Soprano Julia Bullock makes her Philharmonia and Royal Festival Hall debuts when she joins Esa-Pekka Salonen in his last season as Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of London’s Philharmonia Orchestra. The centerpiece of the program is Britten’s Les illuminations, a setting of nine poems by Rimbaud; Bullock and Salonen’s performance of this piece with the San Francisco Symphony was hailed as “something of a revelation…a performance of magnificent expansiveness” by the San Francisco Chronicle. Bookending the Britten are two pieces by Ravel. The concert will stream live from London’s Royal Festival Hall on Idagio (for audiences outside the UK, on-demand until Oct 31) and on TicketCo TV (for UK audiences); it will also be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, where it will be available subsequently to stream on demand.
