Featuring the same stripped-down, intimate setting as its in-person counterpart, Tiny Desk (Home) Concerts feature artists from around the country and world performing from their residences. Julia joins the esteemed series from her home in Munich alongside conductor Christian Reif on piano. The duo performed an illuminating and diverse program: beginning with Schubert’s “Wanderers Nachtlied II” and Weill’s “Wie lange noch,” then the American traditional tune “City Called Heaven” before concluding with Billy Taylor’s “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free.” NPR’s Tom Huizenga describes Julia as, “one of today’s smartest, most arresting vocalists in any genre,” calling this performance, “among the most transcendent musical moments I’ve experienced this year.”
