Zauberland was recently named one of Limelight Magazine’s “Top Shows of 2019.” Limelight praised director Katie Mitchell and playwright Martin Crimp’s objective to “dive into what a 19th-century song cycle has to say to us in today’s world.” Describing the opera as, “unsettling, sometimes Kafkaesque, and frequently leaving you gasping for air,” the magazine noted that “it was also a meditation on the current refugee crisis and the power of the subconscious.”
Limelight applauded Julia, calling her performance “dramatic and … transcendent, creating a richly rewarding narrative that worked its way under the skin.”
